A Lesson learned from Bubbles!

My lovely daughter Maggie taught me something wonderful today. Maggie, who will be 3 in less than 30 days, loves bubbles. She loves for you to blow them out and she chase and pop them. More than popping them, she loves for you to blow a 'big one!'

The lesson came today because she wanted to blow her own bubbles. When she started, she told me that I was her bubble teacher and she wanted to go be scrappy's bubble teacher (scrappy is her grandmother's cat.) What she wanted to do more than anything was blow a 'big one.' I told her that she had to blow slowly so that the bubbles didn't rush out of the wand. She tried and tried, but she only could blow little bubbles. She then looked up to me and told me that when she gets big like me, she would blow 'big ones' herself. I encouraged her to keep trying and that she too could blow a big bubble. In about 2 minutes, she had slowed down her blowing and had the start of a big bubble. She only needed the lung capacity to pull it off.

So, you sitting there thinking that I am crazy or that I am going to turn this wonderful moment with my daughter into a cheesy sermon illustration...well, I am a bit crazy, and I hope that this isn't too cheesy...but God did speak to me during that moment. Mostly because I just had a really stressful weekend and I needed it.

So here is what I learned. First, "when you are faithful in the little things, you will be blessed with much." There are moments when I think I am ready for anything. I believe that a little naivety is a good thing sometimes because if we knew everything, then we wouldn't try challenging things some times. But, at the same time, I have limitations because of inexperience and sometimes people would rather have experience over vigor. But even so, I must be faithful where I am.
Second, "Don't let people look down on you because you are young." I know that when your kids are little they want to be like you, but I don't want Maggie growing up thinking that she has to wait until she is older before she can try things. What I saw today was a little girl who, with a little encouragement, try something she had never done before. The reality is, she cannot develop the lung capacity to blow a large bubble unless she does things that help her develop her lung capacity. The same is true for me. I am excited about what God has called me to go do. I know that there will be things that I have not encountered, but unless I encounter them, I will never know what it takes to do them.

So that is it. We are pressing on. God has answered the first half of our prayer. We sold our house in record time and we can leave LaGrange with out financial baggage. So we continue to pray for where we are to go.

Not too cheesy I hope.
