Minnesota - Day 2

I am sitting in class today listening to lectures on Isaiah. Good stuff, but only reiterates my need to put significantly more prep time into my messages. It is amazing how much we take things out of context to say what we want it to say. We even went over an old hymn that takes it lyrics from a passage in Isaiah but what the hymn is saying is not what the text means. Now the hymn's theology isn't bad...matter of fact, it is good theology...just not from that passage of scripture. This stuff can make your head hurt sometimes, but I do believe that it is important that we work hard on understanding the meaning of scripture instead of making it say what we want. There you go.
