The things my wife gets me into!
For Valentine's Day, Beth bought me a introductory fight at a flight school in south Atlanta. So today we drove over and while Beth and Maggie sat in a rocking chair, I jumped into the plane you see below and went for a 30 minute joy ride. I have to say, it was pretty crazy. The plane was barely big enough for me and the flight instructor. There was never a time during the flight that our shoulders were not touching. After we took off, I was allowed to fly the plane. I know I didn't control the whole plane, and at any time, the flight instructor could have taken over, but I was flying the plane! Not a lot of people can say they have flown a plane.
After our time was up, we got back to the airport. Unfortunately for me, the wind was blowing pretty hard, so I had to give up controls earlier than normal, and we bounced around a lot. The biggest down side to the wind was that it made me sick. I didn't get sick in the plane, matter of fact, I was ok until I got back to the truck. When we had put Maggie in the truck, I sat down and had to close my eyes. Eventually, I had to let Beth drive so I could sleep.
It was a great experience. I am glad Beth bought the flight for me, but I don't think I am destined to be a pilot. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to be on the edge of control. There were moments I didn't feel in control!
