Wow what a weekend!
Well, the weekend is over. It is 11 pm in California and we spent the afternoon at the Brethren district camp in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It was really beautiful up there.
Today I believe the service went well. When the service started the congregation was spread out all over the room. After the meet and great, the congregation moved forward. After the service, the worship team talked about how crazy it was that they moved. No one seems to know how it happened...the leadership team believe it was a move of the spirit...no one asked them to move. I am not sure if that means much, but it was cool to see them move forward!
They recorded the service on video for a couple of the members who were not in town because of Father's day. There is going to be a meeting on Wednesday to make the decision on whether or not they want to recommend me to the congregation for the job. I am not sure when the vote will be, but I should know something about the process after Wednesday!
Beth and I are excited about the possibilities here. Directly behind the church there is a apartment complex and neighborhoods all around the church. The church has a great worship band. The older members are outwardly focused. I had a man to day (Mr. Gee...not sure how to spell it) ask me how we were going to grow the church. He is an amazing guy...he retired from the post office in 1980!!! He is in his 80's (I think!) and he wants to know how we were going to reach the lost of Manteca for Christ! That is exciting to me!
That is it for now. We leave tomorrow and spend most of our day in airports and planes. Pray for safe travel. If you are on the east coast, we will see you soon. If you are on the west coast, thanks for everything...we appreciate your hospitality and look forward to speaking with you soon.
