Talking Shop

I have a friend named Bill. Bill and I have known each other for a couple of years now. He was integral in our family moving to California. Though our relationship is relatively new, we have become great friends.

Just today, he called me and woke me up! I lied and told him he didn't because I didn't want to sound too lazy! (I digress) So at the end of our conversation (about church stuff), Bill said, "Hey, we need to talk soon...but not 'talk shop'!" I agreed. We do need to talk soon...about more than what is going on with church.

But the rest of the day, his words stuck in my brain...I wondered for quite some time about whether or not I could actually carry on a conversation about anything other than "shop." "Shop" for me is church. Now I have opinions on quite a few things in this world. If you know me well, you know I am never at a loss for words. But I am concerned that I am completely engrossed in my job. There is very little time in my day when I am not thinking of what is going on at church.

So I guess this is more of a confession than anythings else. If you have a chance, engage me in a conversation about anything other than church. Maybe I will begin to think about something other than what is going on at the church!
